The visionary game developer, the mind behind the immensely successful first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a traffic collision in California he was 55 years old.

The tragic news was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The celebrated video game developer died after his automobile collided and caught fire on a motorway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a heartbreaking loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his family, and the countless individuals inspired by his work," a representative from Electronic Arts said.
