Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
