Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
