The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
