The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, donated by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
