Supporters Urge Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are urging that a individual who leaped a fence and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage depicts the individual from Australia shoving aside media personnel and lunging at Grande while the actors walked down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account includes clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney concert in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had gathered in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a two-film interpretation of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which focuses on the surprising bond between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, securing a pair for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
