The midfielder Set-pieces from dead balls and free kicks created chances. Enjoyed room to drift down the left flank yet found himself offside as the pass came in front of goal. Given a deserved substitution around the 60-minute point. 6

The star midfielder Functioned in a high spot out wide and put in defensive duties. Displayed glimpses of brilliance and dragged a shot wide. Withdrawn towards the end by a teammate, his competition, after being booked. 7

The winger Was presented with England’s best chance in the opening period, his effort smartly stopped from Thomas Strakosha. As a teammate holding position, it fell to him to provide width out wide yet his deliveries from the touchline were inconsistent. Taken off for the final quarter-hour. Six

The captain The match-winner netting seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth strikes at international level. The first a trademark opportunist's goal and the second a superb header having drifted away from his marker. At 32, he’s only getting better and England have every chance in the upcoming tournament with him leading the line. Eight

Eberechi Eze Found it tough to make an impact from the left. Was presented with a presentable chance when set up from a teammate but Strakosha kept it out. His replacement produced a bigger influence after coming on. 5/10
