Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their initial championship series since the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind 3-1, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for our team, our city, Canada," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment other than George Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he remarked.

Toronto won the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
